POA - Practical Opportunities to Advance Nutrition in Africa

Harnesses the power of local untapped resources – young people, grassroots innovations, and community structures – to propel efforts in the collective fight against hunger and climate change.

POA [pronounced [“POH-AH”], means “all is well ” or “good” in Kiswahili – which aligns with our vision to harness and propel locally led action to achieve positive change across nutrition, health and climate change initiatives.

POA Africa strengthens capacity for hunger, health and climate change efforts.

We address critical capacity strengthening gaps:

Health workforce shortage

Few and overburdened health providers can compromise access, availability and quality of services.

Systemic capacity building issues

Gaps in governance, coordination, advocacy and youth engagement can hinder effective service delivery.

Knowledge to practice gap

Communities, providers and youth lack evidence-based nutrition knowledge and skills.
